Jim’s Pizza Box N Scale Layout

I have started two “Pizza Box” modules to make an N Scale 3×6 layout. Our local NMRA Division started a Pizza Box Model Railroad Club for kids. It began as an idea to make 2×2 foot modules with a simple circle of track to get kids (and their parents) involved in doing scenery on a small model railroad. In January I will be working on my layout and helping the kids with theirs at the club’s monthly meeting.

The summer of 2018 the National N Scale Convention will be in Salt Lake City and the Club has been invited to display the Pizza Box layouts. Well, if I were doing one, of course I couldn’t just do a simple circle of track 🙂 I decided to make an “extra large” Pizza Box – 3×3 foot… two of them. That gives me a 3×6 layout which is doable as a small N Scale layout, more than a simple circle of track. It also happens to be the minimum square footage for the AP Scenery Certificate in N Scale. The biggest hurtle is I now have to build 10+ turnouts! I have always wanted a small N Scale layout so this is a fun “diversion” from my normal modeling. Of course, if I’m doing N Scale, I have to also do Nn3! I have a narrow gauge Shay that I’m looking forward to building and may even enter into the contest.

As of right now, below is the track plan I am planning. I have one change in mind but am still thinking about it. I will be making more pages showing the construction so stay tuned and check back for updates!

Sorry I’ve not updated this in years! Instead of spending time on the computer I’ve been working on trains!
This is my basic-getting-started photo.

Here it is displaying on May 11, 2019, the 150th Anniversary of the Driving of the Golden Spike at This is the Place Historical Park.

I have not done too much beyond this point because I “learned about” Free-mo and Free-moN and have gotten involved with those groups.

Here is a N/Nn3 crossing I made. On the layout photo above the yellow boxcar is sitting on it so you can’t see it installed.
