Locomotives for my Bronx Terminal

The Bronx Terminal had several locomotives over the years including the first commercially successful diesel-electric locomotive in the United States! Here’s an interesting video about it.

I have the MDC boxcab version that I want to upgrade the drive system, add sound and DCC to eventually. In the meantime, I have several other locos that work well for this yard. The prototype really only had one at a time but since my yard can connect to the mainline of a Free-mo layout I have a few. Also provides me with some variety.

Since I have “transplanted” it to the Bay Area, I’ve done some research as to the locomotives that ran on the lines out west. I will repaint at least one for the San Francisco Belt Railroad that was originally the State Belt Railroad.

A new locomotive that I got is the Alco HH600 CNJ #1022. At first I thought it was sort of ugly but now really like the design. It came with DCC but I added a keep-alive and it works great! I got the #1022 but recently found out that #1021 was used at the Bronx Terminal for a short time. They modified the couplers by extending them because of the tight radius in the yard. So far I have not had to but will try that if needed.
